Quartz Stone Carpets
A Stunning Alternative to Tiles, Laminate & Wooden Flooring
Ayrshire Scotland
Quartz Stone Carpets are the most rapidly growing flooring system in the world and is generally known as quartz carpet or stone carpet. It consists of thousands of natural quartz granules bound together in a clear resin, and is attractive to look at, totally seamless, and very pleasant to walk across barefoot.
A Finish To Suit Any Flooring
The natural quartz granules come in various sizes, finishes, textures, and a full spectrum of colours to suit any decor. Their usage is only bound by imagination as quartz flooring is suitable for indoors and outdoors, and can be used in kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, outdoor entertainment and living areas, as well as being suitable for commercial flooring such as car showrooms.
Originating in Europe, stone carpets provide exceptionally versatile flooring systems that are durable and practical, yet warm and soft underfoot. The seamless surface is visually appealing and it has a natural beauty that can be used to enhance your home by choosing suitable granule size and selecting from the almost infinite colour range. It is also highly suitable for use with underfloor heating.
It has a projected life of over 20 years, is stain resistant and is easy to maintain and clean. Other benefits of a quartz carpet floor are its soundproofing properties and its capacity to stop fire spreading between areas of your home. It is also suitable non slip flooring for sauna and swimming pool surround areas.
Installation of Quartz Stone Carpet
Providing the surface is prepared properly, quartz flooring can be installed over existing concrete, cement blinding, tiles, natural stone, anhydrite, wooden or plywood surfaces. Each substrate requires different preparation. The thickness of the floor depends on the granule size but will be a minimum of 6 millimetres thick for small stones (1-2 mm) to around 10 mm thick for 3-4 mm stones.
The stone aggregate and the resin that binds them are mixed on site using a minimum of 7 – 8kg of resin for 100kg of quartz stones. If less is used the floor will not be as strong and stones could eventually become loose. Application is done with hand trowels.
Cleaning and Maintenance of Quartz Carpets
Stone carpets are hygienic and easy to maintain. The open structure allows house dust to lodge invisibly between the grains, where it won’t waft up, making it a good floor covering for people with allergies. It should be vacuumed once a week to remove the dust and dirt. Spills can be removed using lukewarm water and a sponge.
In high traffic areas like kitchens/bathrooms it is best to seal the floor to fill the pores between the quartz granules. It can then be treated like a ceramic tile floor and cleaned with a mop. The sealer coat can be re-done every five years. An open pore quartz floor can hold a lot of water if mopped, so should be given a periodic cleaning with a carpet cleaner or steam cleaner
Overall, there is plenty to like about quartz carpets and there will be some part of your home, either inside or out, that will lend itself to this style of floor covering. Go ahead and try it and friends and visitors are certain to be impressed and ask you more about it
